Fontaine is the fifth nation the Traveler and Paimon travel to during the main story of Genshin Impact, but anybody who has completed Mondstadt's Archon Quests can head to the Nation of Justice whenever they like.

Added during version 4.0, Fontaine has all of the usual bells and whistles like new Archon Quests, Reputation system, Commissions, World Quests, domains, and bosses - but Fontaine's unique addition is its new underwater exploration mechanic.

Everything new added to Fontaine in Genshin Impact

Here's a short list of everything noteworthy added to Fontaine in Genshin Impact:

The big new addition exclusive to Fontaine is underwater exploration. You can dive almost anywhere in the region to explore vast underwater areas, with combat, exploration, and puzzle mechanics unique to underwater travel. To aid with navigating the water and land, a multi-layer map feature debuted in version 4.0 with Fontaine.

There are also additions that we've come to expect from each new region in Genshin Impact, such as new Reputation rewards, fishing spots, Shrine of Depths, Sigil exchange at the Fountain of Lucine, and lots of new Teleport Waypoints and Statues of Seven. Any reguar feature or system available in the other regions is available in Fontaine as well.

Genshin Impact Fontaine characters list

We know of 10 new playable characters from Fontaine. The list of all Fontaine characters in Genshin Impact so far is:

  • Charlotte
  • Clorinde
  • Freminet (4-Star - released Version 4.0 Phase 2)
  • Furina (AKA Focalors, Fontaine's Archon)
  • Lynette (4-Star - released Version 4.0 Phase 1)
  • Lyney (5-Star - released Version 4.0 Phase 1)
  • Navia
  • Neuvillette (5-Star - released Version 4.1 Phase 1)
  • Sigewinne
  • Wriothesley (5-Star - released Version 4.1 Phase 2)

The Hydro version of The Traveler also debuted with Fontaine, but we don't really classify them as a Fontaine character exactly - but the Hydro Traveler can jump and dive while swimming like other Fontaine natives!

Neuvillete and Wriothesley are all available to Wish on during version 4.1, but we'll have to wait on official details for the release order of the remaining Fontaine characters, and any more added in the future. Including brief descriptions of the main objectives, here's a list of all Fontaine Archon Quests in Genshin Impact:

Chapter 4 Act 1 - Prelude of Blancheur and Noirceur

You need to be Adventure Rank 40 to unlock Act 1 of Chapter 4 in Genshin Impact.

We're introduced to many of Fontaine's key characters in its first act, including Lyney, Lynette, Navia, Neuvillette, and Furina, the current Hydro Archon of Fontaine. The story focuses mainly on Lyney and an incident that occurs during one of his magic shows. Beware of spoilers below if you haven't completed the quest yet!

There are three sub-quests in 'Prelude of Blancheur and Noirceur':

  1. Soloist's Prologue
  2. The City of Rains and Remembrance
  3. Lies Cast Shadows Under Gathered Lights

Soloist's Prologue objectives:

  1. Go to Caravan Ribat
  2. Go to Romaritime Harbor in Fontaine
  3. Talk to the young woman by the water
  4. Follow Lyney
  5. Talk to Lyney
  6. Distribute Magic Pockets to the nearby residents (3)
  7. Talk to Lyney
  8. Collect materials used to make Magic Pockets (3)
  9. Talk to Lyney
  10. Go to the top of the lift to cut off the thief's escape
  11. Talk to Lyney
  12. Ride the aquabus to the Court of Fontaine
  13. Go to the Court of Fontaine

The City of Rains and Remembrance objectives:

  1. Go to where Lyney is
  2. Go to Beaumont Workshop
  3. Defeat the Confrerie of Cabriere henchmen
  4. Talk to Childe
  5. Ride the Navia Line and head to Erinnyes
  6. Go to the fountain plaza in front of the opera house
  7. Enter the Opera Epiclese
  8. Go to the seats Lyney arranged
  9. Watch the magic show

Lies Cast Shadows Under Gathered Lights objectives:

  1. Talk to the Gardes
  2. Look for clues inside the opera house (3)
  3. Search the underground passage for clues
  4. Return to the surface
  5. Wait until the trial on the following day (08:00 – 10:00)
  6. Participate in the trial
  7. Cross-examine Lyney
  8. Continue taking part in the trial
  9. Talk to Lyney
  10. Leave the opera house

Chapter 4 Act 2 - As Light Rain Falls Without Reason

You need to be Adventure Rank 40 to unlock Act 2 of Chapter 4 in Genshin Impact.

The second act of Chapter 4 focuses more on Navia, as the Traveler and Paimon assist her in discovering the truth behind who's really responsible for the serial kidnappings of Fontaine's young women. Beware of spoilers below if you haven't completed the quest yet!

There are three sub-quests in 'As Light Rain Falls Without Reason':

  1. Like the Faint Moonlight of Yesteryear
  2. The Truth, Lost With the Rain
  3. When All Return to the Waters

Like the Faint Moonlight of Yesteryear objectives:

  1. Go to Hotel Debord
  2. Go to the fountain plaza in front of the opera house
  3. Go to the Spina di Rosula stronghold

The Truth, Lost With the Rain objectives:

  1. Go to the Chief Justice's office
  2. Go to Poisson
  3. Talk to Melus on the ship
  4. Visit Jacques' family
  5. Talk to Florent
  6. Go to the Court of Fontaine and speak to Thierry
  7. Contact Marcel
  8. Go over the clues with Navia

When All Return to the Waters:

  1. Find a way to get underwater
  2. Go to the place Melus mentioned
  3. Find the entrance to the "headquarters"
  4. Proceed deeper within to investigate
  5. Look for clues in the headquarters' depths
  6. Analyse the clues you've found with Paimon
  7. Look for clues related to "Vacher"
  8. Race back to the opera house and submit the evidence
  9. Leave the opera house
  10. Bring Marcel to the fountain plaza
  11. Talk to Neuvillette

Chapter 4 Act 3 - To the Stars Shining

You need to be Adventure Rank 40 to unlock Act 3 of Chapter 4 in Genshin Impact. Beware of spoilers below if you haven't completed the quest yet!

There are four sub-quests in 'To the Stars Shining':

  1. A Tea Party Most Thorny
  2. Fortress of Meropide
  3. The Proscribed, Hidden in Plain Sight
  4. Lost in Deep Seas

A Tea Party Most Thorny objectives:

  1. Return to Spina di Rosula's base in the Court of Fontaine
  2. Talk to Neuvillette
  3. Go to Cafe Lucerne
  4. Find Neuvillette at the entrance to the Fortress of Meropide
  5. Ride the lift and enter the Fortress of Meropide
  6. Talk to Marette and complete the required procedures
  7. Follow Deakin

Fortress of Meropide objectives:

  1. Ride the lift
  2. Go to the corners of the corridors
  3. Talk to Wriothesley at the Coupon Cafeteria
  4. Talk to Wriothesley at the Pankration Ring
  5. Talk to Wriothesley at the dormitories
  6. Go to the infirmary and talk to Wriothesley
  7. Go to the Coupon Cafeteria to get some food
  8. Return to the dormitories and talk to Fielding
  9. Go to the production zone to talk to Grainville
  10. Process widget
  11. Take the widget
  12. Give the products to Grainville
  13. Keep looking for Lyney in the area
  14. Keep looking for Lyney
  15. Go to the Coupon Cafeteria to get some food

The Proscribed, Hidden in Plain Sight objectives:

  1. Go to the production zone in the morning and gather information
  2. While working the morning shift, apply for continuous working shifts with Grainville
  3. Look around to collect clues regarding the 'strange meat'
  4. Go to the Pankration Ring in the afternoon and gather information
  5. Go to the Pankration Ring after earning 3,000 Credit Coupons
  6. Gather clues regarding the 'Strange Blood-Colored Liquid'

Lost in Deep Seas objectives:

  1. Continue asking around for clues
  2. Return and investigate again
  3. Ask the trio that hangs out together often
  4. Ask the guard at the dormitories
  5. Go to where the rumoured pipes are
  6. Enter the pipe
  7. Return to the dormitories

Chapter 4 Act 4 - Cataclysm's Quickening

Into the Deepwater Murk objectives:

  1. Investigate freely
  2. Go to the production zone to search for Lyney
  3. Enter the Infirmary to obtain intelligence
  4. Return to the dormitories

The Truth Shrouded in Shadow objectives:

  1. Go to the production zone to search for Lyney
  2. Head to the Infirmary in secret
  3. Search for clues in the Infirmary
  4. Try to understand the situation of the people around
  5. Go back to the Infirmary with Freminet
  6. Look for clues concerning Childe
  7. Dive into the water to continue your investigation

Secret Keepers and Forbidden Zones objectives:

  1. Go to the Duke's Office
  2. Talk to Wriothesley
  3. Follow Wriothesley
  4. Follow Wriothesley
  5. Follow Wriothesley and explore ahead

Calamitous Tread objectives:

  1. Return to the Infirmary
  2. Go to the cafeteria
  3. Return to the dormitories to rest
  4. Check on the situation outside
  5. Go to the office
  6. Go to the Forbidden Zone

  9. Follow The Knave to the exit

A Moment's Respite objectives:

  1. Return to the prison to learn more about everyone's situation
