Nightdive Studios' remaster of cult hit shooter Star Wars: Dark Forces has been given a release date and is launching for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch on 28th February next year.

Announced back in August, the Star Wars: Dark Forces remaster is being made in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, and sees the 1995 first-person shooter - which follows mercenary Kyle Katarn as he undertakes a number of covert operations to thwart the Empire at the behest of the Rebel Alliance - getting a welcome modern-day upgrade.

Nightdive Studios - the remaster specialist behind this year's acclaimed System Shock update, among many others - is promising resolutions of up to 4K at 120fps for its enhanced Dark Forces release, although expect that to vary depending on your platform of choice.

There's also talk of "upgraded gameplay", high-resolution textures, enhanced lighting and rendering, plus gamepad support (including a new weapon wheel, rumble, and gyro controls) across the original's 14 levels - which, if you're unfamiliar, also feature a spot of platforming, environmental puzzling, and melee combat along with all the blaster-ising.

So that's the Star Wars: Dark Forces remaster then, arriving on 28th February next year for PC (via Steam), PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Switch.
